Forest Health and Fuels Management
California’s forests face significant challenges and require proactive management. Many of the state’s landscapes and ecosystems have adapted to frequent, low- to moderate-intensity fires, which historically maintained open, healthy forest conditions with less dense vegetation. However, over a century of fire suppression has led to overcrowded forests that fuel extreme wildfires, putting communities, watersheds, and wildlife at risk.
The Butte County Resource Conservation District (BCRCD) is committed to restoring resilient forests and fostering fire-adapted communities. Through strategic land stewardship—including forest health treatments, prescribed fire, and other science-based practices—BCRCD works to reduce wildfire hazards, enhance habitat, and support biodiversity.
